December 2021 Letter from our Zone Rep:

Good afternoon, all,
Happiest of holidays! I hope this finds you busy but calm, and ready for the winter break. Best wishes on any winter/holiday performances!
Thank you so much for the honor of serving as the Zone 9 Representative for another 3 years. I am hopeful they will be more “normal” years!
Attached, please find the notes from the conference, and a digital copy of the Area All-State agenda with the upcoming Spring 2022 festivals.
***IMPORTANT: We DO NOT have a host for the Rockland County festival on May 13-14 at this time.
Please let me know ASAP if your school can host. This has traditionally been a very large festival, and if it is not held, there is no guarantee that students can/will be absorbed into other festivals. Festivals will be capping attendance, so please plan ahead.
I checked with the NYSSMA officers about this, and other Zones are not obligated, nor do they have to permit students to come to their Zone, if they are not from that Zone.
Reminder that All-State students must be registered at the same site from the same school. Information about receiving an exception to this regulation can be found in the Manual on R 14-15
Procedures for accommodating Students With Disabilities can be found in the Manual on R-2.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Happy New Year, and stay safe!
Best regards,

If you haven’t already become a member of NAfME/NYSSMA, please consider doing so. Annual dues are $134.00 and members receive The School Music News, the Music Educator’s Journal and Teaching Music. In order for us to improve on the local level, we must support our state and national organizations. Only about half of our RCMEA membership are also members of NYSSMA. We need to increase this number and support our State Association which continues to fight for music education.
